Plot

After his release from prison, mob boss Dwight “The General” Manfredi is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he builds a new criminal empire with a group of unlikely heroes. Sylvester Stallone’s first starring role in a television series. Dwight & #x27;The General' Manfredi: I don’t really go to church. The opening sequence shows various photographic and painted views, as well as Oklahoma landmarks, superimposed on the New York City landscape: A statue of the Sioux Indian chief "Touch the Clouds" wearing a war bonnet and a bone necklace (breastplate), placed atop the Brooklyn Bridge.

A statue of a gold digger, placed atop the Statue of LibertyRoute 66 Western Gateway Arch, placed on the “Avenue” of Main Street Manhattan. In New York City, in the Manhattan borough, these are several numbered "Avenues" which are intersected by streets with smaller numbers.. I thought this would be a fun show. We’ve come to think that anything with Stallone these days would be a comedy, and Tulsa King does include a good amount of humor.

The characters are genuinely likable throughout

But Taylor Sheridan isn’t going to create a simple parody of a mob story and use Stallone as a joke and an accent. The show has promising depth, despite the lighthearted premise of a former mobster forced to make a fresh start in a new city after a long prison sentence. Comedy ensues as a New York mobster finds his way through Tulsa to establish his turf using his "old world" ways. While it’s not uncommon to root for "bad" man as the protagonist, his straightforwardness and old-world common sense values ​​appeal to those of us looking for something refreshing amidst today’s social nonsense.

Stallone gives a stellar performance

The irony of the message is that it takes a bandit who bows down to no one to break down and expose shallow social hypocrisy. It’s the same formula that made Yellowstone such a success, and Sheridan knows that’s what many of us want. Before he became a caricature in his later roles that swamped the Rocky and Rambo franchises, his acting chops and screen presence created those iconic roles. It’s nice to see him back on screen in a role that seems perfect for him, and to use some of that brash personality to add depth to his character and the series, rather than undermining it.

Overall, a hugely entertaining show that I’m looking forward to and a great addition to the Paramount+ portfolio
